About This Training Programme
Our training programme offers you the opportunity to train in an outstanding teaching environment enabling you to develop a deep understanding of excellence in the classroom.
This is a full-time training programme, which leads to a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE Primary). The programme lasts a year, with a minimum of 120 school based learning days – approximately 90 in your main placement, with a further 30 in an alternative placement. Placements will be in different key stages.
There will be a further training days held at a University as well as days held at venues organised by ILTSH. Achievement of a PGCE Primary Award enables the University to recommend Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) which is awarded by the DfE.
Entry Requirements
Applications are invited from graduates with a degree with a minimum of 2:1 classification, or from students in the final year of their degree anticipating at least a 2.1 classification. However, we will consider applicants with a 2.2 classification on an individual profile basis, provided they can demonstrate excellent potential to become a successful teacher.
A Higher National Diploma (HND) or Higher National Certificate (HNC) are not acceptable as equivalent to a degree for the purpose of entry to this course.
At the time of application, candidates should also have GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language, Mathematics and a Science. A range of other GCSE or equivalent qualifications to reflect the breadth of the curriculum is desirable.
It is essential that applicants have suitable experience of working in a Primary School setting, either on a voluntary or salaried basis. It is desirable that such experience includes a range of year groups covering KS1 and KS2. The more experience an applicant can gain before applying for a place on the course, the greater the chance they will have of being successful.
